Functional and Stylistic Characteristics of the Paratext of News Media Texts in French Internet Mass Media

Abstract
Functional and stylistic characteristics of the paratext of news media texts are being investigated in the article. The notion of the paratext is considered on the basis of the conception by G. Genette, who defines paratext as the relation of the text to its closest near-textual space. The title of the rubric, the text is published in, the name of the author, the date of publication, the headline, the lead, the photo and video materials, the readers' comments are related to the paratext of news media texts. It is determined that both traditional features of the mass media language and innovations connected with the technical capabilities of Web 2.0 are peculiar to the paratext of news media texts. The usage of the neutral sociopolitical vocabulary along with emotionally colored one, the purpose of which is to evoke the emotional activity of the reader, is referred to the traditional features. Besides, the usage of language clichés, abbreviations, grammatical and syntactic constructions is also considered to be typical. At the same time the technical capabilities of the Internet are successfully used to establish a dialogue with the reader in the news media texts. This allows us to distinguish the communicative function of the paratext, which is implemented by means of readers’ comments. The stylistic aspect of the comments is different from a quite stable system of means, which are used by the journalists in the Internet versions of the national-level mass media. The neutral vocabulary is presented to a lesser degree in the comments, giving way to the colloquial everyday vocabulary with the corresponding simplification of the syntax. The principle of the inverted pyramid makes it possible to determine that the paratext of the news mediatext is a harmonious existing entity which can be the main source of information. Paratext is conveying the main semantic load, assuming the functions of the information transmission, while the main text is only complementing it.
