Geneza postradzieckiej państwowości ukraińskiej

Abstract
The article deals with the beginnings of the post-Soviet Ukrainian state. It describes the process of the multi-faceted transformation that Ukraine underwent in the last period of the existence of the Soviet Union. However, the key to understanding the complex path to the beginning of the independence of the present Ukrainian state is to learn the specificity and conditions of Ukraine’s functioning as part of the USSR as the Soviet union republic – the second after Russia as to the importance in the administrative hierarchy of the empire subordinated to Moscow. This issue was also presented in this article in the context of the role of the nomenclature communist and post-communist Ukrainian elites in the disintegration of the USSR. This role turned out to be very important, especially during the Gorbachev pere-stroika and just after its collapse – in the early 1990s.
