Health related quality of life in patients in recovery period of hemispheric ischemic stroke
Journal Title: Український неврологічний журнал - Year 2019, Vol 0, Issue 2
Abstract
Objective — to estimate effectiveness of basic programme for secondary prophylaxis in comparison with advanced secondary prophylaxis tactics on health related quality of life outcomes in patients with hemispheric ischemic stroke. Methods and subjects. Investigation of health related quality of life in recovery period of ischemic stroke was performed in 92 patients of both sexes. MOS SF‑36 questionnaire was used. A comparative assessment of the effectiveness of medical interventions was conducted taking into account the dynamic changes in health related quality of life. Results. Significant decrease in health related quality of life indicators in poststroke recovery period is observed. Quality of life in this contingent of patients significantly deteriorates due to decreased physical functioning, role‑play emotional functioning, general health, the presence of somatic pain. In such conditions, there is a decline in social activity, deteriorating mental and emotional health. Better results on improvement of the MOS SF‑36 scores were obtained with application of advanced secondary prophylaxis tactics. Received results ensure that emotional and mental indices should be considered upon selection of individual approach to restorative treatment of patients after cerebral ischemic stroke, since this will greatly depend on both improving health related quality of life and treatment success generally. Conclusions. Patterns of changes, revealed in health related quality of life in patients with hemispheric ischemic stroke consequences unclose new approaches for prognosing results of restorative treatment used.
