HIGH SCHOOL CHOICE MECHANISMS AMONG STUDENTS BASED ON THE VALUE CHANGE THEORY IN HARGITA COUNTY
Journal Title: PedActa - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
Our empirical research investigates the decision mechanisms of students entering high school in the context of the value change theory. The goal of our research is to map the motivation of students choosing denominational and non-denominational high schools, from a cross-sector perspective in Hargita County. In the course of our research, besides the denominational schools functioning under the protectorate of the Hungarian historical churches, we carried out an exhaustive survey among the 9th grade students of the non-denominative high schools residing in Hargita County (N=341). Based on the results we can see that our data indicate the presence of the multidimensional value model used in the Klagesian sense, such as the value synthesis present within the denominational student group. At the same time, we can see that students’ value typologies are contured along two value dimensions, which can also be demonstrated in cross-sector breakdown.
