HYDRONYMIYA OF THE ZBRUCH RIVER BASIN

Abstract
The article deals with lexical and semantic structure of Zbruch basin proper names (left tributary of the Dniester) and serves the general geographic data and a summary of the importance of the river in the history of Ukraine. Semantics generatrix basis, determined by means of their derivation, etymology (including traditional) and motivational features of hydronyms are analyzed. The study is the lexical and semantic and etymological analysis of the proper names of the major tributaries of the river Zbruch within Khmelnytskyi region. The main problems are: defining the generatrix semantics of the base, the motivation, additional linguistic and extralinguistic characteristics and examining the ways of creating the proper names of the Zbruch river tributaries. The subject of the study is etymological, lexical and semantic and motivational features of the hydronyms investigated. Hydronymiya of the Zbruch basin is presented by recently established names, which in people’s memory contains certain information. The peculiarity of the Zbruch basin hydronymiya is no consensus on the origin of the name and its motivation, and the presence of folk etymology options in most hydronyms. Generating bases for Zbruch basin hydronymikon were the other place names, local hydrographic terms and common nouns. Their convertion to the hydroobjects names was carried out mainly by suffixation and hydronymization. The names of other tributaries of the Dniester and microhydronymiya of the region (the names of stagnant waters and wells, wetlands, etc.) are waiting for further investigation.
