Impact of the veneer quality on the properties of the LVL

Abstract

Impact of the veneer quality on the properties of the LVL. In the study, 13-layer LVL boards were made from pine veneers divided into 4 quality classes. The individual plates were varied in terms of veneers content of the specified quality classes (variants) and their distribution on the composite thickness (combination). For each of the 3 veneer variants of specified quality grades, 6 combinations were arranged for each of them. It has been shown that the insertion of LVL two layers of veneer with a higher quality class on the outer layers ensures that the relevant mechanical parameters are achieved. On the other hand, the increase in the number of lower quality veneers placed in the LVL's central zone, despite the similar density of the average product, influences the decrease in its strength parameters.
