Implementation of zirconia-based implant abutments in implant prosthodontic treatment. Part II. A case report.

Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2016, Vol 66, Issue 1

Abstract

The use of hybrid zirconia abutment especially in the frontal region of the dental arch, provides a satisfactory aesthetic outcome. Contrary to titanium abutments, hybrid zirconia abutments do not impair aesthetic outcome of all-ceramic crowns, actually the strength of their construction has a positive effect on long term therapeutic results. Based on the chosen clinical cases the authors present a possibility of applying hybrid zirconia-dioxide abutments in the implantoprosthetic treatment. The authors present the indications for and application of two types of zirconia-titanium hybrid abutments, individual and standard. In individual hybrid abutments it is necessary to produce the zirconia part in CAD/CAM technology and to connect it to the titanium component. On the other hand, standard hybrid abutments are customized to a specific clinical situation by the grinding reduction. Compared to standard abutments an individual hybrid abutment requires a higher workload and a longer time of soft tissues healing, but it provides a better soft tissue support around the implant.
