INFLUENCE OF SUB-MICROMETRIC SOLID LUBRICANT PARTICLES IN THE SURFACE LAYER OF PARTS OPERATING AT HIGH TEMPERATURES ON THE TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 255, Issue 3

Abstract

In the case of high temperatures, traditional lubricating agents lose their properties. An important element is the development of new means of lubrication applicable to industry. The lubrication of systems working at specified intervals becomes an important problem. This article describes the tribological processes of friction and wear of cooperating tribological systems at high temperatures. The studied friction pairs were subjected to a process of modification (impregnation) of the surface with sub-micrometric particles of solid greases. The force of friction and base reaction force of a produced lubricating film are very important and dependent on the chemical and physical properties of particles comprising the lubricating film. The article presents the morphologies of particles of solid greases subjected to RCT (Rolling Cleavage Technology). This is a process of comminution of materials, as a result of which there is produced a submicrometric structure (grouping of nano- and micro-structures). As a result of the change in the sizes of the particles, there follows a change in the properties of a given material. The aim of this work was the determination of the influence of fiction conditions, type, and morphology of particles of solid greases on the wear process. The presented test results and analysis show that the solid greases MoS2 and WS2 with the addition of graphite lower the coefficient of friction and wear of contacting components, causing the extension of the lifetimes of tribological pairings. Simultaneously, the addition of graphite causes the preservation of the tribological properties of the aforementioned greases at higher temperatures. Solid greases: BaF2, CaF2, and h-BN do not fulfil the tribological requirements for systems working at high temperatures.
