Abstract
The article is focused on the main stages of development of corpus linguistics from the historical viewpoint. It represents the profound analysis of the most important and crucial works which background its modern theory and methodology. It also deals with the main approaches which underpin the corpus linguistics methods and are the crucial means for its further development. The fundamental issues of the origin of its terminology system are discussed.
