Journalistic Investigation on Odessa TV (on the material of TV-project “Normalno”)

Abstract
The genre of journalistic investigation becomes very popular in Ukraine. There appeared some influential journalistic investigations on TV. Some centres of investigative journalism have been opened in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine. So the topicality of the research is in the need of monitoring the current level of investigative journalism in Ukraine. The researchers from the organization “Detector Media” have recently finished monitoring the six Kievan programmes of journalistic investigations on TV. But local journalistic investigations on TV have never been the object of such a thorough analysis. The investigative programme “Нормально” on the Odessa television has become the object of the research in the article. The author of the article made monitoring the eight episodes of the programme which have been shot during December in 2017. The aim of the analysis was to evaluate the level of the programme according to the existing norms for investigative journalism and the criteria offered by the researchers from “Detector Media”. As a result of the research the author made a conclusion that the level of the programme “Нормально” didn’t correspond to the norms and criteria of a modern journalistic investigation. In particular he found such drawbacks in the programme. 1. The journalists of the programme try to make reporting, not an investigation. 2. It is next to impossible to define the hypothesis in the materials. That’s why it is difficult to evaluate the materials in a proper way. 3. The programme is biased. The antitype of the materials usually doesn’t get an opportunity to defend himself. The opinion of the journalists of the programme is often dependent on the business interests of the owner of the channel. 4. The level of working with the sources of information doesn’t correspond the standards of journalism. 5. The programme violates the rules of journalistic ethics and the principles of social responsibility.
