Abstract
In December 1916, the Port of Buenos Aires was paralyzed by the strike of the “Federación Obrera Marítima” (Maritime Labor Federation), a union composed of different workers from the maritime sector. Taking into consideration the role of these groups within the Argentine working class in this conflict, the present article aims at analyzing the causes, characteristics and the development of the general strike, the subjects involved in the conflict (companies, workers and government agencies) and its impact.
