La sémantique des insultes dans L’Assemblée nationale constituante tunisienne : le prix de la liberté d’expression ?

Abstract
Post-revolutionary Tunisia won the freedom of expression. However, the Tunisian Constituent Assembly, which comprises a ruling majority called Troika and a countervailing power represented by the opposition, has turned into an arena of unprecedented clashes. At the discursive level, this aggressiveness results into a linguistic phenomenon which Tunisians aren’t familiar with, namely the verbal abuse, with all its implications: insults, in-appropriate words, accusations between opposite parties or between members of the same party. Our goal is to analyze the registers of language used in some of these clashes. We aim to study the semantic of the terms actually used and to explore the cultural background used to make the interlocutor-opponent (the “insulted”, following the expression of Evelyne Larguèche) lose his face and even his credibility. Moreover, it appears that these “clashes” are not intended only for the interlocutor; they are used mainly for taking up position towards a particular problem and thus getting the people’s support. In this case, we will study these clashes as they are rooted in a particular and “serious” context, which makes them seem like real acts of speech that have the ability to change the reality, given the impact these scenes can have on the public opinion.
