Les insultes dans les média écrits roumains – entre cliché et création lexicale

Abstract
The insult is still a fluctuating and fuzzy term, difficult to dissociate from other forms of verbal violence like terms of abuse, offence, jeering and rude words. In print media language, in particular, the insult represents the most severe offense addressed to a person and attempts to damage his or her “positive face”. If in the communist print media before 1989, such personal attacks were inconceivable because censorship ensured that the social standards and mores were respected, after 1990 and especially at the beginning of the 21st century, one can witness the proliferation of vulgar, insulting words, most of them being slang, familiar and vernacular words. The present research has a lexical approach and aims at examining the way the insult is rendered in Romanian print media, having as corpus the newspaper Romania Mare. We shall analyse the innovation and lexical creation processes in the present-day form of Romanian insults.
