Journal Title: Medycyna Ogólna i Nauki o Zdrowiu - Year 2013, Vol 19, Issue 3
Abstract
Lipoleiomyoma is a benign tumour affecting the female sex organs. This histopathological subtype also includes lipomyoma and fibrolipomyoma. The purpose of study was to present a case of lipoleiomyoma corporis uteri which is an extremely rare tumour. Its mass mainly consists of adipocytes, smooth muscle cells and fibrous tissue. We present this case as its incidence is very low. A 44-year-old woman was qualified for surgery (hysterectomy without adnexia) for numerous myomas detected in the uterine corpus. Intrafascial hysterectomy without adnexia was performed by the Aldridge technique modified by Woytoń. The pathology was diagnosed postoperatively in the Department of Pathomorphology of the Specialist Hospital in Radom on the basis of microscopic investigation. Additionally, the cases were analyzed clinically if postoperative investigations found myomas of the sex organs (uterine corpus mainly) with other concomitant pathologies, such as endometriosis, adenomyosis and certain cancers. The reported case of lipoleiomyoma corporis uteri accounts for 0.33% detected in the patients with leiomyomas. The condition was incidentally detected and definitive diagnosis was confirmed histopathologically.Key words: lipoleiomyoma corporis uteri, myoma, surgery
