Magnetic Resonance Neuroimaging of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Journal Title: Science Insights - Year 2022, Vol 41, Issue 7

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a lifelong, relapsing, chronic inflammatory disease of the digestive tract that can be brought on by a number of different etiologies. Studies have shown that patients with IBD also have nervous system involvement in addition to well-known extraintestinal symptoms like arthritis and iritis, and researchers believe that neurological lesions in patients with IBD may be an important extra-intestinal manifestation. Currently, tentative findings from studies employing magnetic resonance imaging to study the brain structure and function of patients with IBD have been made.
