MATHEMATICAL MODEL AND CONTROL ALGORITHM OF AN UNREGULATED WIND TURBINE AND IEIG-BASED ISOLATED ENERGY SYSTEM

Abstract
Purpose. To develop the mathematical model and control algorithm of a stand-alone unregulated wind turbine energy system with inverter excited induction generator, dc main load and auxiliary switched dump load. Methodology. We have integrated the system time domain structural element models for obtaining the complete system model, have used backstepping control design procedure for developing the control algorithm, and have performed simulation modeling to test the behavior of the system. Results. We have developed the mathematical model for calculation of the electromechanical transients in the stand-alone wind turbine energy system with inverter excited induction generator connected to main and switched dump load. The presented control algorithm structure have made possible for the turbine to track its maximum aerodynamic power curve. The performed simulation results confirmed tracking ability of the system under variable wind speed. Originality. For the first time, we have developed the dynamic model of a stand-alone wind turbine energy system with inverter excited induction generator, main and dump load taking into account machine core saturation in the abc reference frame machine model. We presented the wind turbine vector control block diagram for independent regulation of three variables: wind turbine speed, dc output voltage and machine flux with zero static error for flux and voltage. Practical value. The developed wind turbine power system model may be used for optimization of electromechanical processes in stand-alone wind power based energy sets with induction generators. The presented control algorithm is applicable for DSP control systems of the inverter excited induction generators employed in renewable energy systems.
