Mechanical behavior of chemically treated Jute/Polymer composites
Journal Title: Carbon - Science and Technology - Year 2014, Vol 6, Issue 1
Abstract
Fiber which serves as a reinforcement in reinforced plastics may be synthetic or natural past studies show that only artificial fibers such as glass, carbon etc., have been used in fiber reinforced plastics. Although glass and other synthetic fiber reinforced plastics possess high specific strength, their fields of application are very limited because of their inherent higher cost of production. In this connection, an investigation has been carried out to make use of jute, a natural fiber abundantly available in India. Natural fibers are not only strong and lightweight but also relatively very cheap. In the present work, jute composites are developed and their mechanical properties are evaluated. Mechanical properties of jute/polymer and compared with glass fiber/epoxy. These results indicate that jute can be used as a potential reinforcing material for making low load bearing thermoplastic composites.

Physicochemical properties of carbon materials obtained by combustion synthesis of perchlorinated hydrocarbons
We present studies on the combustion synthesis of carbon materials from several perchlorinated organic compounds: tetrachloromethane (CCl4), hexachloroethane (C2Cl6), tetrachloroethylene (C2Cl4), hexachloro1,3-butadiene...
Preparation of tailored carbons with meso- and micro- porosity via template synthesis route
A low cost templating approach to making non-ordered carbons with a tailored meso/micropore structure is described. A series of mesoporous carbons was prepared from polyfurfuryl alcohol and phenolic resin precursors by a...
Preparation, microstructure and oxidation resistance of SiCN ceramic matrix composites with glass-like carbon interface
Glass-like carbon (GC) interface was successfully introduced into carbon fiber-reinforced SiCN ceramic matrix composite (C/GC/SiCN) by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis using phenolic resin as precursor. In order to hig...
Process parameters optimization for synthesis of methyl ester from sunflower oil using Taguchi technique
In this work, transesterification of sunflower oil for obtaining biodiesel was studied. Taguchi’s methodology (L9 orthogonal array) was selected to optimize the most significant variables (methanol, catalyst concentratio...
Plane-Wave Excitation and Electromagnetic Response of Graphene : Non-Linear Effects
In graphene, the two-dimensional electrons and holes are described by the Dirac equation with a vanishing effective mass. As a consequence, under particular operative conditions, the electromagnetic response of graphene...
