METHODOLOGICAL ISSUES IN DRUG TRIALS

Abstract
Clinical trials were introduced as a method of scientific investigation before 1945. Drug trials are primarily designed to compare therapeutic efficacy of two or more drugs. In addition they also help comparing responses in various categories of patients, side effect profile, other indications and prophylactic interventions etc. The drug trials have developed tremendously during past decades.This article summarizes methodological issues in drug trials. It discusses trial designs, assessment of response, analyses and ethical issues.
