The article deals with metonymy which is one of the current linguistic phenomenon of secondary nomination and therefore it is widely presented in modern Ukrainian-language newspapers. Productive types and subtypes of metonymical renaming based on causal ways have been investigated; the phenomenon of metonymical renaming identified by associations between concepts of actions and the subject, object and action steps, action and result of action, the subject and the result of the action have been analyzed. The problem of using metonymy in mass media is relevant both in theoretical and practical terms. Some of its aspects have been touched by linguists, but using of metonymical transfers including newspaper text is not investigated by linguists and it determines the relevance of the research. The purpose of the article is to consider the peculiarities of Ukrainian-metonymy information in newspaper texts based on cause-effect relationships. The goal involves the following tasks: to isolate and describe basic models of metonymical transfers based on the basis of causal connection, highlighting the main groups of metonymical transfer due to associations between concepts and action steps entity. The most common style is in the information transfer model «action» → «the result of action», «function of establishment» → «establishment» and reverse «establishment» → «function of establishment», «action» → «subject (often subjects) of action». So metonymical transfer caused by the causal relations between the concepts related items is rather productive phenomenon in the newspaper and publicistic texts since the association of causes and consequences can be understood as one of the most enduring, essential to human thinking. The analysis of analogical models of causal type used in a newspaper text as a means of creating word play and puns is considered to be a promising area of research. Metonymical puns actively functioning in the structure of the headline attract readers’ attention and they are widely used in media texts.
