Journal Title: Науковий вісник Південноукраїнського національного педагогічного університету імені К. Д. Ушинського - Year 2017, Vol 114, Issue 1
Abstract
The relevance of the study is stipulated by certain features of Biology teaching methodology. Biology, as a school discipline, is full of numerous concepts and terms. When studying the school course of Biology, there arises a question: “How is it possible to combine the presentation of the processes, phenomena, and signs that are being examined at the modern scientific level with the accessibility of its perception by students?” Some sections of the school curriculum are complicated for perception and mastering by students. One of the reasons of perception complicacy of certain sections of the school Biology course is a multitude of concepts. In connection with the abovementioned, the problem of effective assimilation of biological terminology is urgent under modern conditions. These scientists emphasized the importance and necessity of research in the field of working with the scientific language of biology: I. D. Zverev, Y. I. Gabev, A. N. Zakhlebny, B. G. Iogansen, I.S. Matrusov, S. N. Glazachev, N. A. Rykov, I. T. Suravegina, I. P. Ponomareva, V. M. Pakulova. The problem of pedagogical technologies was studied by such scientists as V. P. Bespalko, I. M. Bogdanova, M. V. Klarin, V. P. Monakhov N. E. Shchurkova and others. The majority of scientists agree that training technologies presuppose the organization, management and control of the learning process. At the same time, the use of modern pedagogical technologies for working with biological terminology has not yet been adequately reflected in psychological and pedagogical studies. The main goal of the article is to define approaches to terminological work connected with the assimilation of the scientific language of biology through the use of modern pedagogical technologies. Objectives of the study: 1. To clarify and specify the definitions of the biological concept and term; to determine their relationship. 2. To discover some modern technologies of working with biological terminology. 3. To determine the methods and techniques of terminological work aimed at the assimilation of the scientific language of biology. The modern technologies for working with biological terminology include: 1. Technology of problem training ‒ the creation of problematic situations, their analysis and solution by proposing hypotheses, proposals for creative solutions to problems; 2. Technology of heuristic training (heuristic tasks, lessons of creativity); 3. Technology of differential education; 4. Technology of working in pairs and groups; 5. Game technology. Brief characteristics of the indicated technologies have been considered. Conclusions of the study: 1. Purposeful work on the content of the concept leads to a deeper memorization and understanding of the content of terms, whereas the emphasis only on vocabulary work without proper explanation of the essence of the concept gives low results of memorization. 2. To master biological terms and concepts means to be able to use them. 3. Modern pedagogical technologies of working with biological terminology presuppose purposeful work with educational material, allow us to verify correctness of concepts essence understanding as well as to prevent them from distortion at the very beginning of their formation. The further prospect of research we see in consideration of other modern pedagogical technologies from the viewpoint of their use while studying biological terminology and other special terminology.
