Namiestnik i burmistrzowie. Sprawowanie władzy w Kiejdanach w „pisaniach” Piotra Kochlewskiego

Abstract
The article discusses issues concerning the functioning of Kiejdany in the 17th century as represented in Piotr Kochlewski’s writings and his replies to the letters of the city’s mayor – Józef Zygmuntowicz. Kochlewski, who was a deputy in the private city of Krzysztof Radziwiłł, reported to his master on building of the Protestant community and a school, among others. He also responded to the allegations made by Zygmuntowicz, disagreeing with his position on such matters as land easurement, punishing townspeople and enforcement of Radziwiłł’s recommendations. He accused the mayor of ill-treatment of the citizens and manipulating public opinion; he also criticized the mayor’s self-serving attitude during a plague. The position in these disputable matters was also taken by Prince Krzysztof, who in a letter addressed to mayors of Kiejdany supported his governor. Dans l’article, l’auteure présente les questions liées au fonctionnement de Kėdainiai au XVII siècle sur la base de la correspondance de Piotr Kochlewski et ses réponses aux lettres du maire Józef Zygmuntowicz. Kochlewski – en tant que gouverneur dans la ville privée de Krzysztof Radziwiłł – relate à son maître les progrès dans les travaux de l’extension de Kėdainiai en décrivant par exemple la construction des bâtiments de la congrégation et de l’école. Il répond aussi aux reproches faites par Zygmuntowicz et contredit son avis sur la mesure du terrain, la punition des citadins et l’application des conseils de Radziwiłł. Il accuse le maire de mauvais traitement des habitants de Kėdainiai et de manipulation de l’opinion publique, il critique son attitude intéressée pendant l’épidémie. Le prince Krzysztof soutient son gouverneur dans la lettre aux maires de Kėdainiai.
