Abstract
The author recalls medieval and modern academic traditions of Szczecin and then he moves to the 70s of the 20th century to present the beginnings of teaching of history workshop at the Higher School of Pedagogy. The article describes the development of didactics of auxiliary sciences of history and the research in this direction. The author discusses the key role of professor Zdzislaw Chmielewski. The article attempts to prove that the auxiliary sciences of history are well within in the Institute of History and International Relations of the University of Szczecin, despite the lack of cathedral.
