Chemical and Bio-Chemical Fate of Phorate – Review
Journal Title: International Journal of Research in Chemistry and Environment (IJRCE) - Year 2013, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
Phorate is non-biocumulative and allergic organophosphate insecticide and nematode. Sulfur containing derivatives of organophosphate pesticide like phorate are markedly less effective acetylcholinesterase inhibitor than the oxygen containing derivatives. Long-term and low-level exposure to phorate can cause disturbances in energy-related metabolism, liver and kidney function, the antioxidant system, and DNA damage. The safe and effective use of pesticides requires knowledge of their mode of action in pests and adverse effects in non-target organisms coupled with an understanding of their metabolic activation and detoxification, keeping these things in mind we are going to write a review on acephate. In this review we have studied the toxicity, mode of action, different methods of decomposition viz. acidic, neutral and basic hydrolysis, decomposition in soil, decomposition by mammals, & decomposition in plants and different spectroscopic methods of detection.

Kinetics and Hydrolysis Mechanism of 2,4-dichlorofenoxyacetic acid
The hydrolytic transformation kinetics of the 2,4-dichlorofenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) was investigated as a function of pH. The hydrolysis rate was pH-dependent and the first order. The hydrolysis was much faster in acidic...
Land Evictions, Structural Conflicts and its implications on Urban Development in Sub-Saharan Africa Cities: Evidence from Dar Es Salaam Metropolitan-Tanzania
This paper centered on documenting why there are so many poorly managed and forced evictions in Dar es Salaam and its implications on sustainable urban growth and development. It considers both policies, legal and st...
Insecticide Residues in Abelmoscous esculantus(Lady’s fingers) Crop Grown in Treated Soil
[i] The pesticides, which leave residues in the soil for a fairly long time, are easily translocated in plants to contaminate their edible portions significantly. This results in constant exposure to humans and anim...
Photolysis of Metribuzin in Water under Direct Sunlight - Identification of Photo-transformation Products by LC-MS-MS Electrospray Tandem Mass Spectrometry and Impact on Aquatic Species (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata)
Photolysis of a systemic herbicide metribuzin was studied in Milli-Q water and in three different aqueous buffer solutions of pH 5.0, 7.0 and pH 9.0. A commercial formulation of the herbicide having the active strength 1...
Myristica frangans: A Green Corrosion Inhibitor for Mild Steel in Boiler Scale Removal
The inhibitive action of Myristica Frangans on the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl was studied by weight loss, polarization method and impedance spectroscopy. Results indicated that MF acts as an effective inhibitor i...
