Prospects for The Development of Carbonfree Energy in The Context of Polish Energy Security

Abstract
Energy security of the country relies on a long — term sustainable adjustment of energy supply, to the projected energy demand while taking into account economic and environmental factors. Important factor in reducing the country's energy security risk is diversification of the used fuel and energy structure and thus the development of renewable energy sources (RES). The effective use of RES technologies not only reduces the dependence on imported fossil fuels, such as oil, natural gas, and coal, but also leads to reduction in greenhouse emission, which is consistent with the basic principles of European Union's energy policy. The article includes an analysis of the energy consumption of Polish econ-omy and the prospects for the development of renewable energy. It shows the forecast of the energy production from renewable sources by 2050 and then identifies the promoting factors and barriers in the development of carbon free technologies. The paper also presents selective research methods used during the implementation of the project 'the carbon free energy utilization during the sustainable development of Poland by 2050' carried out at the Central Institute of Mining in Katowice and the research findings.
