STATE OF THE TROTUŞ VALLEY ENVIRONMENT AFTER THE JULY 2004 FLOODS

Abstract
Against the background of a changeable weather, with pouring rains and huge amounts of water, the Central Commission of Defend Against Flood was sending towards Romanian Government, towards Public and Internal Affairs Ministry, towards National Defence Ministry and to all the Prefect's Offices in the country a hidrological warning for the 26th – 30th July 2004 period. This warning was about the possibility of flows and levels rising on the small rivers in the hill and mountain areas. Between this rivers, Trotuş was mentioned. Because of strong atmospheric instability in the western uphill area of the Bacău County, the pouring rains (104 l/mp at Poiana Uzului station, in 28th July 2004), caused discharges of the Trotuş river and, also, of his small tributary streams. There was strong hit by floods more then 60 villages and cities (Agăş, Asău, Comăneşti, Ghimeş, Palanca, Tg. Ocna, etc.);1874 houses was destroyed, along with 216 ha of agricultural lands, 122 km of main or secondary roads, 167 bridges and 10 medium voltage electricity grids.
