Abstract

The research of new media art phenomenon in the context of the postmodern culture (the post-postmodern culture ). The place of new media art in the contemporary art screen was considered . New Media Art covers all contemporary techniques for digitally-based art making, just as traditional Fine Arts is divided into majors according to traditional technique. The main features of new media art were established. There are processuality, interactivity, communicativeness, rejection of mimetism, syncretism, media technological determinism, formalism, perceptual realism, variability and other features. New media art accumulates in its creation and presentation both screen and off-screen forms of media. Thus, new media art only partially can be considered as the screen art. New Media Art often involves interaction between artist and observer or between observers and the artwork, which responds to them. Such forms of interaction, social exchange, participation, and transformation are important characteristics of new media art. Although the new media are not exclusively related to new media art (since it’s much more important for social and cultural changes in contemporary society), new media created a space for new contemporary art practices. One of significant aspects of New Media Art is truely vast number of ways in which expression may develop. New media art is usually defined as a genre that encompasses artworks created with new media technologies, including digital art, computer graphics, computer animation, virtual art (demoscene and other forms), Internet art, interactive art, video games, computer robotics, sound art, light art, 3D printing, digital poetry and other artistic movements and art as biotechnology . The method of structural–functional analysis contributed to reveal the main varieties of new media art. The specificity of new media art in a postmodern culture was revealed with the method of cultural analysis. The results of the investigation could be involved in the further theoretical and applied researches of the visual culture, modern screen art, and also could be used in such areas as Cultural Studies, Art Studies, Social Communication, Temporology, Culturology.
