ON THE INFLUENCE OF GREEK INTO RUSSIAN COMPOUNDING
Journal Title: Мова - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 21
Abstract
The article on significant historical material addresses the problem of the origin of word-formation models of compound words and the influence of the Greek language in the Old Russian compounding. Compounding is one of the oldest and still very productive way of word formation. Our reference to the Ancient Greek originals penetrates the depth of meaning of ancient parallels. The study of Old Russian translated manuscripts enables to determine a number of ancient models of compound words, the activity of which was greatly stimulated by tracings of the Greek compound words. The widespread use of synonymy in modeling words, and the transfer of the Greek compound words by translating of every component and forming of Russian compound words instead of simple Greek words and phrases indicate the existence of a Russian language compounding ancient tradition.
