Paradoxality of sin in Kierkegaard’s conception

Journal Title: ИДЕИ. ФИЛОСОФСКО СПИСАНИЕ - Year 2013, Vol 5, Issue 5

Abstract

The article is devoted to the investigation of Kierkegaard’s conception of sin as a subject of philosophical reflection. The phenomenon of sin as philosophical and anthropological category is analyzed here as a source of existential experience for contemporary man. The specific features of six types of paradoxes of sin according to Kierkegaard’s conception was analyzed here. The first type is an ontological paradox: sin in its metaphysical meaning is the absence of human being, but indeed sin is a human dimension “in face of God”. The second type is a gnoseological paradox: sin is present in human will and overcome our consciousness, but indeed sin is the absence of awareness of human nature. The third type is an existential paradox: sin makes the human themselves and indeed not themselves. The forth type is an anthropologic paradox: our despair of sin is positive and negative in the same time. The fifth type is a psychological paradox: sin makes us unhappy, but indeed this type of misfortune opens the way to salvation. The sixth type is an ethical paradox: sin is the absence of awareness of human salvation by Christ, but indeed the term of “sin” actually is irrelevant to persons, which are not aware of this event. Special attention in article devotes to “inner mechanism” of human awareness about primordial sin as a phenomenon of “anamnesis” (Άνάµνησις).
