PCR Detection of Scopulariopsis brevicaulis
Journal Title: Polish Journal of Microbiology - Year 2015, Vol 64, Issue 1
Abstract
Scopulariopsis brevicaulis is known as a most common etiological factor of the mould toenail infections. There are also reports indicating that S. brevicaulis could cause organ and disseminated infections. Nowadays microscopic observations from the specimen and culture are crucial for the appropriate recognition of the infection. In this paper a new PCR-based method for S. brevicaulis detection is presented. The specificity of the reaction was confirmed, as positive results were obtained only for tested DNA extracted from S. brevicaulis isolates and no positive results were obtained for DNA from 57 moulds, 65 dermatophytes, 30 yeast-like fungi, and human DNA.

Biochar-Rhizosphere Interactions – a Review
Biochar is a solid material of biological origin obtained from biomass carbonization, designed as a mean to reduce greenhouse gases emission and carbon sequestration in soils for a long time. Biochar has a wide spectrum...
Prevalence, Influencing Factors, Antibiotic Resistance, Toxin and Molecular Characteristics of Staphylococcus aureus and MRSA Nasal Carriage among Diabetic Population in the United States, 2001–2004
Diabetic population were reported more likely to suffer carriage and infection with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) than non-diabetic population. We aim to elucida...
Antimicrobial Effects of Platelet-rich Plasma against Selected Oral and Periodontal Pathogens
Antimicrobial properties of platelet rich plasma (PRP) against various microorganisms have been recently pointed out. PRP could be an alternative to conventional antibiotics in preventing oral and periodontal infections....
Interaction of Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria with Ceramic Nanomaterials Obtained by Combustion Synthesis – Adsorption and Cytotoxicity Studies
This paper presents the interactions of Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Pseudomonas putida) bacteria with ceramic materials obtained by combustion synthesis. These studies were cond...
Early KPC-Producing Klebsiella pneumoniae Bacteremia among Intensive Care Unit Patients Non-Colonized upon Admission
Among 140 patients colonized by KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPC-Kp) between fourth and seventh day of Intensive Care Unit stay, 24 developed bacteraemia immediately after colonization. Colistin-resistance of the...
