PECULIARITIES IN TRANSLATION OF FRENCH PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS INTO UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE

Abstract

The article describes and analyses the principal ways of the translation of the French phraseological units and the difficulties that appear depending on their peculiarities, semantic integrity and complexity. The translation of French phraseological units faces certain difficulties because of their semantic unity and compositeness. Translation requires the strict resemblance to the rules taking into consideration the specific features of utterances under the translation. To obtain the appropriate accuracy of the translation of phraseological units an interpreter uses different techniques of translation, among them we can distinguish equivalent translation, analogical, descriptive, antonymic translation, loan translation, composite translation. An equivalent translation is the translation of a phraseological unit from one language into the other which coincides in contest and structural composition of components. Phraseological components may be of two kinds – full and partial. The optimal translation decision is the choice of an identical phraseological unit. An absence of the direct coincidence of an original phraseological unit may be filled by means of the equivalent phraseological unit of the other language. The loan translation or calque may be available in some contexts, but this method is not always effective. This method is mostly used in translation of Bible, antique and mythological sources. The loan translation in complex with explanation can be used in translation of texts of cultural and historic type. This kind of translation is called double or parallel. If there are no phraseological units in the language of translation in larger or less extend equivalent to the original phraseological unit then words with equal meaning and stylistic colouring should be found, the so called one word partial phraseological units equivalents.
