PECULIARITIES OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS INTERPRETATION (ON THE MATERIAL OF ENGLISH AND UKRAINIAN)

Abstract
The article deals with the peculiarities of phraseological units interpretation. The works of domestic and foreign scholars are analysed. the attention of modern linguists is concentrated on the ways of functioning and interpreting of phraseological units from english into ukrainian languages. The importance of the problem of phraseological units interpretation for the linguistics nowadays has been pointed out in the article. Main classifications of phraseological units and different approaches to their interpretation are viewed. The research is conducted on V.V. Vinogradov’s classification of phraseological units. According to it they are classified into three big groups: phraseological fusions, phraseological unities and phraseological collocations. The main ways of interpreting phraseologisms are viewed: equivalent, analogy, calque translation, descriptive or explanatory translation. The national cultural connotation can become the major problem of the process of interpretation into a foreign language. The interpreter should know not only source and target languages but also historical and cultural background of nations. The individual approach to every separate text translation is needed.
