POSTERIOR RADIAL COLLATERAL ARTERY BASED FLAP (LATERAL ARM FLAP) MODIFICATIONS FOR REPAIRING THE SOFT TISSUE DEFECTS OF THE POSTERIOR ELBOW REGION
Journal Title: Çukurova Anestezi ve Cerrahi Bilimler Dergisi - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Aim: Several flaps are used for repairing the soft tissue defects of the posterior elbow region. Posterior collateral artery based lateral arm flap is one of the most frequently used flaps. Is to review modifications of lateral arm flap for repairing the soft tissue defects of the posterior elbow region. Material and Methods: Keywords are searched at Pubmed. By analysing designs of the posterior radial collateral artery based flaps that were used for posterior elbow soft tissue defects, flap modifications are pointed out. Results: Lateral arm flap, which is initially used as free flap at 1982, subsequently used as pediculled flap and several modification of pediculled flap are described. It can be used as distally based (reverse) or proximally based. For covering large defects, extended flap can be designed. According to absent tissue to reconstruct, it can be used as fasiocutaneous, adipofascial or osteocuteneous flap. Donor site morbidity of posterior radial collateral artery perforator flap is inconsiderable and perforator flaps can be used as propellar or V-Y advancement flaps. Conclusion: For repairing soft tissue defects os posterior elbow region. lateral arm flap is a reliable and versatile flap that has several modifications.
