PRAWNOMIĘDZYNARODOWE ASPEKTY NIEPODLEGŁOŚCI UKRAINY

Abstract
International legal aspects of the independence of Ukraine are of particular importance in the context of the events on the Crimean Peninsula and eastern Ukraine. In this article attention is paid to the regulations of international law concerning one of the components of the state, which is the territory - uti possidetis, the inviolability of borders, territorial integrity, self-determination of peoples (the right to secession), and non-interference in the affairs of other country. Through all the years of independence the Ukraine was, and is protected as a subject of international law on the basis of these fundamental principles. New concepts related to the responsibility to protect in any case do not justify the secession and annexation of territory of the other state. From the point of view of international law the territorial scope of independent Ukraine has not been altered, and the Crimean peninsula is a territory occupied by Russia.
