Predicates’ Hierarchy in Ivan Franko’s Gothic Poetics

Abstract
Predication determines textual integrity and enables its being referred to the entire discourse and world’s map, it selects the key attributes of objects and stratifies different levels of abstractedness that build up a hierarchy. The analysis of predication in Ivan Franko’s prose refers to the abstractions of the martyrdom reflected in hagiography and to the Gothic images of agony. It can be substantiated with the transitions between different levels of predicates’ abstraction regarded as the verbal masks.
