Reliability of the FEM Calculations of the Fracture Mechanics Parameters
Journal Title: RECENT - Year 2009, Vol 10, Issue 27
Abstract
This paper describes some results obtained by analyzing cracked plates by means of FEM based on the procedures of ANSYS 10. The numerical results are compared with their analytical solution. The influence of mesh configurations on crack characteristic values is considered. It is found that the simple isoparametric elements are not appropriate for calculating SIF and their usage has to be avoided. ANSYS gives fictitious results about KII and they must be neglected.
