Religious reform the emperor Julian

Abstract
The article deals with the importance of the Christianity in the IV century in Rome due to the emperors Constantine and Constantius II religious politics. Meanwhile, the paganism has lost the governmental support and privileges, but remained playing the signi¿ cant role for the Roman society and the Roman elite. The belief in the ancient Gods has been the paramount reason for the re-establishment and reform of the polytheism. The last pagan emperor`s attempt to reform the religion were analyzed. The religious tolerance proclamation, the pagan rituals restoration, the sanctuary reconstruction have been considered as the main Julian`s actions. The priesthood improvement has been the crucial factor in the pagan reformation on the basis of the emperor`s correspondence with the priests. The attempt of the pagan restoration in the Roman Empire, the creation of the powerful hierarchical priesthood organization provided by the Emperor Flavius Claudius Iulianus Augustus were evaluated.
