Abstract
Very many facts of life in Kiev, the greatest pianist of the twentieth century, Vladimir Horowitz, are not known to a wide reader. Even the place and date of birth of the great musician in the reference books of many countries are distorted. In addition to thousands of articles, interviews, essays, there are three biographies of the pianist. This is a monographs by Glenn Plaskin, Harold Schonberg and David Dubal. All three biographers are also mistaken when they write about a musician before he leaves the USSR. The article contains documents confirming the place and time of birth of Vladimir Horowitz. Information about his grandfather Joachim Horowitz, father Samoil, mother Sophia, uncle Alexander Horowitz, brothers Yakov and Gregory, sister Regina and some information about the family Bodik (mother's family) are given.
