Roman imperial palaces and the expression of power: from Octavian to Diocletian
Journal Title: Alejandría - Year 2023, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
The present work offers a history of imperial palaces from Augustus to Diocletian, with the aim of seeing in their evolution a tendency to show more and more clearly the power of the emperor, as can be observed in aspects such as protocol or clothing. For this reason, the focus will not be on the most purely architectural aspect, but on the symbolic meaning of the structures and the organization of space and their relationship with the politics of each emperor.
