СЕМАНТИЧНІ ВИТОКИ РЕЗУЛЬТАТИВНОСТІ ДІЄПРИКМЕТНИКІВ В НІДЕРЛАНДСЬКІЙ МОВІ

Abstract
У статті досліджуються функціонування і семантика дієприкметників у сучасній нідерландській мові. При цьому головна увага приділяється критеріям виокремлення дієприкметників із результативним значенням та їхньому взаємозв'язку із твірними дієсловами. The article focuses on the functioning and semantics of participles in Dutch. The main attention is paid to the criteria of distinguishing the participles with the resultative interpretation and to the explanation of their interrelation with the verbs from which they were derived. The study is conducted on the basis of the compilation of the fragments with participles obtained from the texts by Dutch authors from the 20th and 21st centuries. This compilation represents the functioning of the Dutch language within the framework of fictional and non-fictional discourses. Despite the fact that the participle in the Dutch linguistics is mostly described as a form of the verb, such an interpretation of this part of speech does not provide a convincing interpretation of all the occurences in different sentences. Moreover in some cases it clearly contradicts the exact nature of a particular participle. Participles are, in fact, mostly derived from verbs but there are also participles in Dutch which are formed by a combination of an adjective and a noun. And even those participles that are derived from verbs often show adjectival features on semantic and syntactic levels. The ambivalence in the functions of the participle enforces the necessity of further studies on its adjectival and verbal properties and their semantic origins. The scientific search for the principles for the distinction between the adjectival and verbal participles in Dutch resulted in the use of a number of morphological, lexical and syntactic criteria. However, the attempts to distinguish verbal participles from those with adjectival features inevitably face certain empirical constraints. The proposed criteria can not be effectively applied to all the occurences of participles. Numerous examples of grammatical and lexical homonymy in Dutch represent a complex problem for linguistic analysis. Sometimes only contextual criteria make it possible to understand if a certain participle has adjectival or verbal meaning. Therefore, in the article, when interpreting the status of the corresponding participle, we refer precisely to the context in which it was used. The possibility of a resultative interpretation of the participle is only possible when it is formed from a terminative verb. However, there are cases in Dutch that show that the resultative interpretation of the participle is possible not only because it derives from the terminative verb, but also because it is used in a context in which the boundary (both spatial and temporal) is clearly outlined after the attainment of which action, expressed by the corresponding verbal root, is considered fulfilled.
