SHEVCHENKO STUDIES AT ODESA I. I. MECHNIKOV NATIONAL UNIVERSITY: ORIGINS AND NOWADAYS

Abstract

The purpose of our article is the analysis of the history of the research of life and creative work of Taras Shevchenko at Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University. All historical periods of existence of the University were taken into consideration in the research, which gave the possibility to throw light upon the principal works of academics of Novorossiysk University, the Institute of National Education, Odesa State University, in the sequel Odesa National University, to the utmost and for the first time. Bibliography of academics, who touched upon the research of creative work of Taras Shevchenko in their academic days and professors’ articles in core academic magazines and separate publications became the subject of our research. The purpose of the study was to take up the formation of Shevchenko research learning at Odesa National University. Using the methodology of continuous selection from the mentioned sources the stages of development of academic researches at the University concerning the creative work of Taras Shevchenko were analyzed and systematized. As a result core academics’ works were described in chronological order and historical events influencing the academic interests of the academicians were described as well. The main finding of the work is the bibliographic list of works of professors of the University, thematically subdivided into creative work of Taras Shevchenko research domain that is linguistic, philological, historical, culturological articles of creative work of Taras Shevchenko.The research findings have the practical value for professors and students studying the creative work of Taras Shevchenko and history of the University in general and for historians taking an interest in the development of science of Odesa region.
