Sialadenosis Of Parotid Gland: Cytomorphological Importance In The Diagnosis Of An Uncommon Entity.

Journal Title: Pathology And Laboratory Medicine - Year 2018, Vol 9, Issue 1

Abstract

Sialadenosis also known as Sialosis is recurrent, chronic, non- inflammatory, non- neoplastic and extremely rare disease of the salivary gland, mainly parotid, characterized by hypertrophy and hyperplasia of acinar parenchyma. We here-by present a case of 39 years old male having a swelling over left preauricular region since 2 years and gradually increasing in size. On examination swelling was 1.5x1 cm2 in size, soft in consistency, diffuse, non tender and with normal overlying skin. This is an extremely rare condition and is usually associated with systemic disorders. It is important to diagnose this condition on cytology by its distinct features as it can mimic low grade Acinic Cell Carcinoma which require surgical intervention. So cytomorphology has an important role to decide the course of treatment.
