Silage Yield Potential of Some Corn (Zea mays. indendata Sturt.) Varieties

Journal Title: ISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences - Year 2022, Vol 6, Issue 4

Abstract

This study was carried out in Konya province Karapınar county Resadiye district Güllükuyu plateau farm lands in order to determine the vegetative characteristics of some silage maize varieties (Zea mays L.) in 2020. The experiment was laid out in the randomized blocks design with 5 replications. In this research 4 different silage maize varieties (31Y43, 31G68, 6777 ve 7240) were used as experimental materials. When research results were evaluated statistically, it was determined that the difference between cultivars was significant or very important in terms of first ear height, total leaf weight, stover yield, crude protein, ADF rate and ash. As a result of the research, plant height 3.71m-3.92m, first cob height 171.2-197.4 cm, total leaf weight 176.2-236.4 g plant-1, total cob weight 334.8-394.6 g plant-1, leaf weight 176.2-236.4 g plant-1, total stem weight 670.4-798.4 g plant-1, total cob weight 334.8-394.6 g plant-1, total fresh weight 1181.4-1385.0 g plant-1, stover yield 8.062-9.854 kg da-1, moisture 26.2-27.3%, starch content 22.0-26.2%, protein 5.6-7.3%, ADF 28.0-32.0%, NDF 47.9-54.6%, KMT 2.5-2.45%, PLA 3.7-4.4%, and crude fat rate 3.1-3.6%. It can be said that 31Y43 variety is considered more promising than the other varieties for plant height, total leaf weight, total stem weight, total fresh weight and stover yield, ADF and NDF averages.
