Standardization and the rising significance of creative industries in the context of the social computer games market

Abstract

This article discusses the standardization and the often accompanying productivity revolutions in the context of the rising importance of creative industries in the economy. Computer games are the sector that generates a significant portion of the added value in creative industries. Since the fastest growing segment of the games industry is based on social games, it is those games the author focuses on. The author concludes that social games are successful, amongst other things, due to the fact that they managed to map out and quantify key aspects, which the “traditional” games, operating on different design patterns, were yet unable to do.
