STRATEGIES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING VOCABULARY

Abstract
Vocabulary is the fundamental part of language, so its mastery is one of the significant components in acquiring a second or foreign language. Also, it is one of the major challenges that foreign language learners face during the process of learning a language. One way to alley the problem is to assist students in becoming independent learners during the course of L2 vocabulary learning. Hence the best way to be fully driven to the process is to notify the strategies below: A Table Vocabulary Method A Visual Dictionary Method Picture Prompts Method Paraphrasing Method Vocabulary Based Stories Method An Associative Method A Quick Write Method As Wright noted, "...the more words ELLs know, the more they can speak and write and understand what they heard and read" (p.160). This is why vocabulary development is so essential for ELLs”.
