Structure and properties of sintered aluminum-based alloys produced by extrusion

Journal Title: Modern Innovations, Systems and Technologies - Year 2023, Vol 3, Issue 4

Abstract

This article examines the structure and properties of extruded sintered aluminum-based alloys. Two methods for producing alloys have been studied: activated liquid-phase sintering and intensive hot processing. A comparison was made of the mechanical properties of extruded alloys with non-extruded analogues. The results indicate a noticeable increase in tensile strength in Al-Ni and Al-Fe alloys, but a decrease in strength in the case of Al-Ti alloy. However, the best complex mechanical properties of the Al-Ti alloy were revealed. Metallographic analysis indicated that the transition metal particles had not completely combined with the aluminum. Fractographic studies revealed different failure mechanisms for each alloy: ductile mechanism for Al-Ti alloy, ductile-brittle mechanism for Al-Fe alloy and brittle mechanism for Al-Ni alloy. In general, low strength is associated with the use of pure aluminum as the alloy matrix.
