Journal Title: Moment Dergi - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

This article focuses on a best-seller that can be identified as a self-help book (Allah De Ötesini Bırak / Say Allah Leave the Rest) and it considers its relationship with the dominant socio-cultural narrative style. Through analyzing in which milieu this narrative style is getting valid and popular, it analyses the universe design embedded to the text and the sources of the affect shaping this design. Accordingly, this article suggests two claims: first, conflicting/competing subjectivities in the text resembles the individuality design of neoliberalism. Second, author’s authority which is constituted as affective wisdom relies on commonsense and bullshit. In addition, qualities attached to certain concepts and dichotomies in the text engages with gender regime of conservatism and resembles the conservatism as attitude that sees experience valuable.
