SUCCESSFUL CONCEPTION AND DELIVERY IN THREE CASES OFSWYER SYNDROME

Abstract
Objective: To study cases of Swyer Syndrome, their presentations, possibility of conception in terms of preparation and receptivity of the uterus and outcome of pregnancy. Study design: Case series Setting: Department of Reproductive Medicine, Nadkarnis’s 21st century hospital and test tube baby centre, Surat, Gujarat, India Patient(s): All the three cases presented to our hospital for primary infertility. First case was tall with spontaneous breast development and menstruation. Second was a short statured female with delayed secondary sexual characters, primary amenorrhoea and primary infertility. Third, was a tall, morbidly obese female with essential hypertension who had been on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for 10 years with well-developed secondary sexual characters with primary infertility. Intervention(s): Gonadectomy, Hormone replacement therapy, Oocyte donation and ICSI. Main outcome measure(s): Successful conception and live birth. Result(s): After adequate development of the uterus and endometrial preparation, these patients conceived with oocyte donation and ICSI. First case had preterm twin vaginal delivery, while the other two had undergone caesarean section for foetal distress and severe preeclampsia respectively. Conclusion(s): Early detection of these cases would help in timely development of their secondary sexual characters and restoration of menses. Pregnancy is feasible, however single intrauterine pregnancy would be ideal as their might be increased chance of preterm labor in uterus which was hypoplastic.
