Świat Mikołaja Gogola

Abstract

The article discusses the merits of the Ukrainian-language publication entitled Nikolai Gogol in Odessa (М.В. Гоголь в Одесі), published in 2014 in Odessa, as a part of the Literary Odessa. Biographical Materials> (Літературна Одеса: матеріали до біографії) edited by Valentina Musiy. The book is supplemented with a valuable bibliography (and an anthology of texts) presenting a list of Gogol’s works written in Odessa (including a version of The Government Inspector) and the reception of his works by the Odessa newspapers and the scholars associated with them. It presents the celebrated writer’s relationship with Odessa and its inhabitants during his two stays there: in 1848 and in 1850–1851.
