Synthesis Characterization and Application of Salicylaldehyde Thiosemicarbazone and Its Metal Complexes

Abstract
The Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) complexes of the ligand salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (SALTSC) were prepared and characterized using IR, UV, 1 H NMR, EPR spectra. IR spectrum of ligand and the metal complexes indicate the existence of monoanionic tridentate nature of ligand which undergo coordination to metal ions with ONS donor atom sets. Based on EPR studies the g values were calculated for all the complexes and the g value shows that all complexes were paramagnetic in nature. The antimicrobial activity of the ligand salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone and its Mn(II), Fe(III),Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) complexes was conducted against various microbes.
