The Cerebral Hemodynamic Mechanism of Transient Global Ischemia Using Two-Photon Microscopy
Journal Title: Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 7, Issue 6
Abstract
The bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAO) model simulates the effects produced by the systemic decrease in blood flow, affects the entire brain, and resembles transient global cerebral ischemia in clinical in a number of pathological aspects. In this research, we use two-photon laser scanning microscopy to monitor the hemodynamics before, during and after BCCAO 60 min so that we can have a deep understanding of the hemodynamic mechanism. The data imply that severe ischemia damage can cause permanent brain dysfunction since the compensatory ability of system is limited. Due to a lack of blood flow supply, the longer ischemia time was more likely to cause an irreversible damage to the brain, causing brain dysfunction.
